Goose and the Golden Eggs
Aesop's Fables
When he took it up it was as heavy as lead. He was going to throw it away, because he thought a trick had been played upon him.
On second thoughts, he took it home with him, and soon found to his delight that it was an egg of pure gold.
Every morning, when the farmer went to his Goose's nest, he found a golden egg. In fact, he soon became very wealthy by selling his eggs.
As the farmer grew rich he grew greedy. He thought: "If the goose lays golden eggs, the gold must be inside the goose..." and thinking to get all the gold at once, he killed it and opened it only to find nothing.
Moral: Greed often over reaches itself.
